Congress stages protest over LPG price hike

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Protests erupted in the city on Thursday as Congress workers raised slogans against the recent hike in LPG cylinder prices by the Central Government. The party submitted a memorandum to the district collector demanding an immediate rollback of the increased prices, stating that the hike has disrupted the financial planning of common citizens, women and small business owners.
The agitation was held following a call by Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal to organise statewide protests against the price rise. Accordingly, party workers staged a demonstration on Thursday morning under the leadership of district president Kiran Patil Dongaonkar and city president Shaikh Yusuf. During the protest, the area outside the district collectorate reverberated with slogans such as “Modi sarkar hai hai” and “Hosh mein aao”.
The memorandum stated that during the tenure of the UPA government, even when international gas prices increased, the burden was not passed on to the common people. However, under the present government, the rising costs are being shifted to the public, it alleged.
Those present at the protest included former MLA Namdevrao Pawar, state office-bearer Adv. Sandeep Patil, Ashok Dholas, Jagannath Kale, former leader of opposition Bhausaheb Jagtap, and organisation general secretary Engr Vishal Banswal, among others.
