A complete lockdown has now been imposed in Aurangabad on weekends, due to a rise in COVID19 cases. The total number of COVID19 cases in Aurangabad district is 57,755 including 5,569 active cases, till yesterday. Earlier, lockdowns were announced for Nagpur City and Parbhani districts of Maharashtra. Tight curbs have been imposed in Pune also. Cases are rising across Maharashtra. On Friday, Maharashtra recorded this year’s highest one-day spike on the third day in a row with 15,817 new infections coming to light, a health official said.

India on Friday reported 23,285 new COVID-19 cases, 15,157 recoveries, and 117 deaths in the last 24 hours. On March 11, 2021, Maharashtra alone reported more than 14,000 new coronavirus cases. So much so that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had to warn of lockdowns in more areas of the state after it has already been announced for Nagpur City. Maharashtra has more than half of the total Covid-19 caseload in India. Even as the vaccination drive against the Covid-19 has started in the country, coronavirus cases are rising across states. The government has blamed the laxity of people as the main reason behind the rising number of cases in the country.
