Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The proposed 85-km railway line between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Ahilyanagar remains stalled at the detailed project report (DPR) stage. Though railway authorities claim the DPR is in its final phase, the project is still awaiting formal approval.

Significantly, the line is planned not merely as a single track but as a fully electrified double line, with an estimated investment of Rs 2,235 crore. The route is considered crucial for enhancing both passenger and freight connectivity between Marathwada and western Maharashtra. As per the DPR, proposed stations include Deogiri Cantt, Ranjangaon, Yesgaon, Gangapur, Devgad, Newasa, Usthal Dumala, Shani Shingnapur, Brahmani and Vambori. Improved rail connectivity to religious destination Shani Shingnapur is expected to boost tourism. However, the delay in approval has led to growing public disappointment. Once cleared, the railway line is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Ahilyanagar while providing impetus to industrial and agricultural sectors.
