Desilting work begins at Shivajinagar Underpass
Chhatrapati Smabhajinagar
The railway department has started removing accumulated silt from the Shivajinagar underpass using machines ahead of the monsoon season.
Mud pumps will also be installed at the site to prevent waterlogging. Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and avoiding flooding in the underpass during heavy rains, as witnessed last monsoon. More than one metre of silt accumulated inside the chamber is being cleared and the work is expected to take two to three days. Meanwhile, after MSEDCL removed cable lines near Deolai Chowk, the Public Works Department began laying an underground drainage line using a JCB machine. Following completion of the drainage work, construction of the service road will be taken up, allowing citizens to use service roads on both sides.
