Dubai video call marriage case: accused arrested in rape complaint
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Jinsi police have arrested Shaikh Abdul Rehman on charges of rape after a 21-year-old computer science student alleged that she was sexually exploited under the false promise of marriage, including an alleged video-call wedding from Dubai.
According to the complaint, the accused posed as the son of a reputed college principal and falsely claimed to belong to a wealthy, educated family. He met the woman during a training programme and allegedly gained her trust by promising marriage and a job opportunity. He is also accused of establishing physical relations with her at multiple locations in July-August. After moving to Dubai, he allegedly maintained contact and conducted an “online marriage” via video call. Upon returning in November, he again allegedly sexually assaulted her and later took her to Hyderabad, where the abuse continued. The accused further claimed he was facing a financial fraud case and would be arrested, before cutting contact. He later resumed communication in January, claiming bail, and allegedly assaulted her again. Following the complaint, the woman approached Jinsi police, who registered a rape case and arrested the accused.
