E-toilets for women at Gulmandi, Osmanpura
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
There is a lack of sanitation facilities for women at crowded locations in the city, causing inconvenience to many who visit marketplaces. To address this issue, e-toilets will be set up at two locations Gulmandi and Osmanpura as part of a pilot project.
The initiative is being implemented under the leadership of standing committee chairman Anil Makariye. A meeting in this regard was held in the presence of municipal commissioner Amol Yedage, where it was decided to immediately launch the pilot project at the two locations.
Makariye said that providing sanitation facilities for women is the responsibility of the municipal corporation. The e-toilet facilities will help reduce the inconvenience faced by women. If the project proves successful, the facility will be expanded across the city.
City improvement committee chairman Jalinder Shendge, city engineer Sanjay Kombade, Shankar Mhatre, Kishor Mankape, and Sagar Nilkanth were present at the meeting.
Estimated cost of Rs 12 lakh
According to sources, the installation of one e-toilet is expected to cost around Rs 5 to Rs 5.5 lakh. For two locations, the total expenditure is estimated at approximately Rs 12 lakh.
About four years ago, the municipal corporation had installed blue-coloured urinals at 50 locations across the city. However, due to lack of water supply, they became non-functional within a month. Even today, remnants of these blue urinals can still be seen at several places in the city.
