The body of an unidentified woman, aged 55–60, was found under suspicious circumstances in a field at Asegaon on Thursday. Police suspect murder and have launched a detailed probe under the supervision of commissioner Pravin Pawar and Crime Branch officials.
Farmer Santosh Kamble spotted the woman lying near a stream along the Maliwada–Asegaon road on the Dhule–Solapur highway. After Police Patil Balu Kamble alerted authorities, inspector Rekha Londhe and sub-inspector Vasant Shelke reached the spot with a forensic team, fingerprint experts and a dog squad. The woman, about 4.5–5 feet tall, medium-built and fair-complexioned with black-and-grey hair, was wearing a black thread on her right leg, a white beaded/Tulsi necklace on her right hand and a ring. Her ears were torn, suggesting possible robbery of earrings, and her clenched teeth indicate suspected suffocation. Her identity remains unknown. On the commissioner’s instructions, a team led by senior inspector Somnath Jadhav prepared an AI-generated reconstructed image, which has been circulated to nearby districts. Police have appealed for information to identify the deceased.
