Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
An engineering student secretly took photographs and videos of her roommate while she was changing clothes in their hostel room and sent them to her male friend. When the victim confronted the accused after discovering the act, the boy shamelessly replied that he had asked for the photos “for his own pleasure”. Following this incident, a case has been registered at Cidco police station against the girl student from a reputed engineering college at Chistiya Chowk and her friend, Swaraj Dhalgade.
The complainant, a 23-year-old third-year engineering student, Apurva (name changed) resides in her college hostel. She shares the room with Akanksha (name changed). On January 19, after returning to her hostel room once her lectures ended, the complainant noticed Akanksha talking to her boyfriend on the phone. During the call, Akanksha was heard asking, “How are the photos and videos? Did you like them?” This immediately raised suspicion in the complainant’s mind.
From Akanksha’s conversation, the complainant strongly suspected that the discussion was about her own photographs. She immediately asked Akanksha for her mobile phone, but Akanksha initially refused. Angered, the complainant snatched the phone and demanded the password.
Victim shocked after seeing her own photos
Upon checking the phone, the complainant was horrified to find secretly taken photos and videos of herself while changing clothes. The material had been sent by Akanksha to her friend Swaraj Dhalgade on 18 January. When the complainant called Swaraj and questioned him, he brazenly replied that he had asked for the photographs for his own enjoyment.
Apology followed by suicide threat
Akanksha initially apologised for her actions. The complainant informed her parents as well as Akanksha’s parents about the incident. However, Akanksha later threatened the complainant, saying that if she approached the police, she would commit suicide and leave a note naming her.
Following this threat, the complainant approached Cidco police inspector Atul Yerme and lodged a formal complaint. On his instructions, a case was registered against both Akanksha and Swaraj Dhalgade. The police sub-inspector (PSI) Sopan Narale is conducting further investigation.
