Fear grips citizens due to bee hives
Lokmat News Network
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The increasing presence of bee hives (honeybees) in several residential areas of the city has created an atmosphere of fear among citizens. In Kanchanwadi, the discovery of a large bee hive near a flat on the fifth floor of a building has caused panic among residents. The possibility of an accident at the location cannot be ruled out.
Local residents have repeatedly approached the fire brigade, the forest department and even some private agencies regarding this danger. However, as no concrete assistance has been received so far, the residents have been left helpless. As per forest department regulations, protection of biodiversity is extremely important. Destroying, burning or harming honeybees or other insects is a punishable offence under the law. Therefore, illegal measures being adopted by some individuals could prove harmful not only to the environment but also to citizens.
There is a growing demand that the bee hive should be removed safely with the help of a trained team.
Municipal corporation’s responsibility
Local citizens have lodged a complaint with the forest department. However, since the matter pertains to an urban area, the municipal corporation’s fire department should take action and ensure the safety of citizens from the bee hive, said forest range officer, Sagar Kute.
