Government should focus on lifting the stay on Maratha reservation
Aurangabad, Dec 24:
The state government should focus on lifting the stay on Maratha reservation, appealed petitioner Vinod Patil here on Thursday. He commented on the decision of the Maharashtra cabinet to provide reservation to the Maratha community under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category for educational admissions and jobs.
Patil said the state government offered EWS reservation to the Maratha community. As a result of this decision, students from the Maratha community will now be able to take advantage of EWS in the process of academic admission and recruitment process. However, any economically backward student in the open category is eligible for the reservation. Hence it makes no sense. The state government should take into account all the decisions taken in the past and allow the students to edit the category and compensate the Maratha students who are preparing for the medical course. This will be in the interest of the Maratha students. Explaining that there is no connection between Maratha reservation and EWS reservation, he said that the government should focus on lifting the stay on Maratha reservation and give justice, without pretending that it has done a lot for the Maratha community by giving EWS reservation.
