Guardian minister advises LoP to rise the right way

The guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat, in his fatherly advice to the leader of the opposition in the municipal corporation, Abdul Sameer Sajid, suggested learning to dream big. “I have worked with your father. Don’t get carried away; it won’t be good for you. This is your time to rise, if you rise in the right way, you will reach the right heights,” Shirsat, on Wednesday.

The standing committee chairman Anil Makariye asked for just ₹20 crore! What will that achieve? This city will not fall short of funds,” Shirsat assured.

Until now, the municipal corporation did not have a modern firefighting vehicle capable of tackling fires in buildings up to the 12th floor. A new vehicle based on German technology has been procured at a cost of Rs 15.78 crore. The funds were allocated by the guardian minister through the District Planning Committee (DPC).

The vehicle was inaugurated on Wednesday morning at the municipal headquarters by Shirsat. Mayor Sameer Rajurkar, deputy mayor Rajendra Janjal, chairman Anil Makariye, leader of opposition Abdul Sameer, municipal commissioner Amol Yedge, and additional commissioner Ranjit Patil were present on the occasion.

Shirsat said, “I served as a corporator in the municipal corporation for 10 years and was also the House Leader. This is a burial place. Hence build a grand municipal corporation building at Panchavati, don’t worry about funds. Today, no other district has such a vehicle to combat fires in high-rise buildings. I sanctioned Rs 32 crore for relocating of poles, but the work order was never issued. Properties were demolished to widen roads, yet not a single road project has begun.” Earlier, the mayor and deputy mayor shared their views, while the commissioner delivered the introductory address.

‘We are here to douse fires’

Taking a dig at municipal corporation politics, Shirsat said, “There are many who ignite fires; we are the ones who extinguish them. With this new vehicle, the municipal corporation will be able to demonstrate that.”

‘We will ensure even this commissioner stays’

Referring to former commissioner G Sreekanth’s work, Shirsat said, “He did good work, and we tried to retain him. You should also perform well. We will make efforts to ensure you stay,” he told the new civic chief.
