The health department will launch a district-wide awareness and prevention campaign on Saturday to mark World Dengue Day on May 16 under the theme, “Unite, Act and Eliminate Dengue.”
According to the district health department, 26 dengue-positive cases have been reported since January 1, including 10 from rural areas and 16 from urban areas. However, all patients have recovered completely and no deaths have been reported. The health department has intensified preventive measures, with awareness programmes planned at primary health centres, schools, colleges and village levels. Prabhat pheris (awareness rallies) will also be organised in some areas. Health workers will conduct door-to-door visits and urge residents not to allow water stagnation in tanks, coolers, tyres, flower pots and nearby surroundings, as dengue spreads through mosquito breeding. Citizens have been advised to immediately visit government hospitals or primary health centres if they experience symptoms such as fever, body pain, headache, nausea or skin rashes. Zilla Parishad CEO Minu P.M., assistant director of Health Services (Malaria) Dr Rekha Bhandare, district health officer Dr Abhay Dhanorkar and district malaria officer Ravindra Dhole appealed to citizens to cooperate with the campaign.
