Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
In a shocking case of hit-and-run and intimidation, a speeding hyva truck driver knocked down two young women riding a moped near the Commissioner of police’s office and then allegedly threatened them instead of offering help. The incident occurred on April 12. A case has been registered at Begumpura Police Station against hyva owner Rameshwar Mhaske and driver Mahendra Bhausaheb Shinde.
A 23-year-old woman, originally from Dhule and currently residing in the city for work, was travelling with her friend on a moped around 5:30 pm on April 12. They were heading from Mill Corner towards Government medical college and hospital (GMCH) when, near the commissioner of police’s office, a speeding hyva rammed into them from behind. Both women were thrown some distance and sustained injuries. Their moped was also damaged.
At the scene, driver Mahendra Shinde initially assured them that he would provide all necessary help.
From assurance to threats
The two women later sought medical treatment and contacted the driver Mahendra Shinde and hyva owner Rameshwar Mhaske. However, instead of assisting them, both allegedly abused and threatened the women.
“I will not help you. Do whatever you want, file a complaint wherever you wish,” they reportedly said. The driver further threatened them, saying, “I have strong connections. No one can harm me. I have already killed four people,” using abusive language.
The incident left both women frightened. After informing their families and receiving support, one of the women filed a complaint at Begumpura Police Station on April 14.
