Maharashtra’s folk arts shine in Himachal Pradesh

In a proud moment for the cultural heritage of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Maharashtra, young artists Shweta Chandrakant Bhusekar and Vaishnavi Bhagwat Kiranapure from the city were selected to represent the state in the prestigious national cultural initiative ‘One State One Artist’. The duo effectively showcased Maharashtra’s traditional Chitrakathi and Manjusha art forms at the national platform held in Himachal Pradesh.

The special national programme was organised at Nashala in Himachal Pradesh from May 1 to 9. The initiative aimed to preserve India’s traditional and folk art heritage while providing young artists with a national-level platform. A total of 38 selected young and traditional artists from across the country participated in the event.

Conceptualised by young artist Prakash Garg, the initiative seeks to give Indian folk art traditions a fresh contemporary identity through the participation of young artists.

Shweta Bhusekar impressed participants by presenting Chitrakathi art, a significant cultural identity of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, while Vaishnavi showcased the traditional Manjusha art form, highlighting Maharashtra’s rich artistic legacy before artists from across India.

During the nine-day camp, both artists collaborated with participants from other states to create joint artworks and also took part in workshops, cultural interactions and various creative activities.
