A major fire broke out at Pranav Coatings in Waluj MIDC around 8.30 am on Thursday after a drum containing chemical-based oil caught fire and spread to nearby scrap material. The company undertakes coating work for industrial parts using large quantities of chemicals. Workers immediately evacuated and alerted the fire brigade. A Waluj fire brigade team rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after nearly an hour. The operation was carried out under deputy fire officer Anil Deshmukh, fire brigade chief L.G. Brahmankar, P.R. Nagargoje, and driver-operators R.J. Jat, S.B. Mahale and S.A. Kande. No casualties were reported, though materials inside the unit were damaged. The fire also caused a strong chemical odour in the area, leading to breathing discomfort for some workers and passersby.
