Migration explained; engaging book review held at MIT

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Faculty at Indian Institute of Ahmedabad Chinmay Tumbe reviewed his book titled ‘India Moving: A History of Migration’ at CSN Book Club, MIT, recently. He explained how factors like network, history, density of farmable land and culture are linked to migration. “Women’s migration is the biggest migration in India, which is a result of marriage. Women’s mobility makes the cultural fabric of the country,” he said. He explained how trains in India are responsible for internal migration of our country.

The writer elaborated how cosmopolitanism versus nativism is the new issue faced by the modern world and declared his support for cosmopolitanism. He spoke about the benefits of migration and maintained that development of rural regions promotes further migration. Migrants are better risk takers, hence, are talented people, he added.

MIT director general Munish Sharma presented a book ‘Accelerating India's Development: A State-Led Roadmap for Effective Governance’ written by Karthik Muralidharan to Tumbe. Gramaudyogik Shikshan Mandal president Dr Y A Kawade was among the booklovers present.
