Aurangabad, Dec 2:

The next hearing on regional reservation quota (70:30) in medical admissions of the State will be held in Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court on December 4. The combined hearing on the different petitioners was held before the HC bench comprising Justice S V Gangapurwala and Justice S D Kulkarni on Wednesday.

Senior lawyer Anil Anturkar as special Government pleader informed the court that the State Government scrapped 70:30 per cent (regional and State) quota in the interest of the State and meritorious students of Marathwada and Vidarbha were at a loss because of the regional quota.

“After approval in Assembly, the rules would be applicable. The Assembly session was not held because of Novel coronavirus,” he asserted.

The petitioners said that if the regional quota is scrapped, there will be injustice with the students of Marathwada and Vidarbha. “Local students will deprive of opportunities. Scrapping the regional quota is unconstitutional. The decision has no approval from Assembly. The Government should withdraw the circular issued on September 7 and continue the medial admission process as per the regional quota (70:30 pc) pattern,” they added.

Advocates Prashant Katreshwarkar, Shivraj Kadu Patil, Aniket Choudhary, A G Ambetkar, Ketan D Pote and V R Dhorde appeared for the petitioners while Anil Anturkar and chief Government pleader D R Kale are representing the Government.
