Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

On one hand, due to the war in Gulf countries, fear of a petrol and diesel shortage has gripped citizens, leading to long queues at petrol pumps where vehicle owners are seen waiting for hours to refuel. On the other hand, incidents of petrol theft from two-wheelers have been captured on CCTV.

In the Beed Bypass area, near Khadi Road, petrol was completely siphoned off from a vehicle belonging to Gulab Jadhav’s son on the night of March 25. As a result, on March 26, Jadhav had to push the vehicle all the way to a petrol pump to refill it. Meanwhile, around 1:45 am on March 26, another incident was recorded on CCTV cameras at Silver Estate apartment parking near Chate School Road, where petrol was being stolen from two to three vehicles.

The CCTV footage clearly shows two young men siphoning petrol from two-wheelers into plastic bottles. This has created fear among residents of the society regarding petrol theft. No complaint has yet been registered at the police station regarding these incidents.

To steal petrol from a scooter, the thieves directly broke the seat lock and siphoned off the fuel. On one hand, there is a shortage of petrol and people have to stand in queues for hours to get fuel, and on the other hand, thieves are targeting vehicles at night.

Similar theft incidents had occurred in the society in 2024 as well. Last night again, petrol was stolen from vehicles in the apartment.

— Manohar Savrate, resident of Silver Estate society

Most of the vehicles in our apartment had their petrol stolen. Even my vehicle lost most of its fuel. When I took it to the petrol pump, there was no petrol available. Eventually, I had to take my niece’s vehicle to go to the office.

— Sandeep Wani, resident of Silver Estate society
