Postmaster among 4 booked for withdrawing Rs 4.35 L illegally from postal office savings account

Aurangabad, Dec 8:

A total of four persons were booked with City Chowk Police Station for allegedly withdrawing Rs 4.35 lakh from relative’s post office savings account. The cheating took place at the head post office of Junabazaar between April 8 and August 19.

According to details, Govind Prakash Darakh, a resident of Lokmat Nagar, Cidco N-5, has a deposit of over Rs 4.35 lakh in his savings account at the post office of Juna Bazaar. He had lost his passbook and was unable to obtain it from the post office because of the implementation of lockdown. Meanwhile, he collected duplicate passbook from the post office, found the amount transferred to the account of postmaster Tushar Subhash Darakh who is his cousin.

When Govind enquired with the officers of the post office, they gave evasive replies. Tushar knew the amount in complainant’s account. Tushar opened a fake account in the post office and transferred the amount to his account by doing bogus signature of Govind who lodged a complaint with City Chowk Police Station against the accused.

Police registered a case against four persons-Tushar, another postmaster Koli and postal employees Sanjit Kumar and Bolkar. Assistant police inspector S K Khatane is on the case.
