Aurangabad, April 6:

The increased consumption of fruit juice in the summer season has pushed up the prices of lemons, oranges and sweet lime (Mosambi) in the city. Another important reason, according to dieticians, is that these fruits are useful in boosting immunity. More than 8 tons of lemons are being sold in the city every day.

During summer season, people prefer drinking fruit juice instead of tea. Similarly, it is said that citrus fruits are high in vitamin C, a nutrient known to help give your immune system a boost. As a result, demand has increased and so have prices. Not only from households, but the demand has also increased from juice centres. Hence prices are rising. If such demand persists, lemons will be sold at Rs 200 to Rs 250 and sweet lime and oranges at Rs 100, traders said.

Inflow of fruits

Lemons come to Jadhavwadi APMC from nearby villages and Nashik and Hyderabad. Mosambi comes to the city from Pachod, Paithan and Jalna, while oranges are brought to the market from Nagpur.

Prices in April (Kg):

Lemon: Rs 80-120

Oranges: Rs 70-80

Mosambi: Rs 60-80
