As per the proposed ‘Shakti’ Bill, there will be an independent squad to investigate the atrocities against women. This squad will conduct the inquiry within a month and file the charge sheet, and the hearing in the matter will be completed within 45 days. The victimized women will get speedy justice through this Act, opined state home minister Anil Deshmukh here on Friday.

Before tabling the draft of the proposed Shaikti Bill in the Legislative Assembly, a meeting of the committee of 21 MLA of all parties was held in the city today. Deshmukh chaired the meeting. The meeting was held throughout the day, and women’s organizations and social groups representatives were present. He listened to the suggestions given by them. Later, he interacted with persons from the legal profession. After the meeting, he interacted with the press. He said there would be a provision of life imprisonment in the new Law for the accused of heinous crimes against women, he said.

On many occasions, women file false cases against men, and it has been found in the investigation of various cases. In many cases, women keep physical relations with consent and then file cases of rape after many years. There will be a provision of punishment in the new Law for the women filing false cases, Deshmukh mentioned.

MLA Amol Mitkari, MLC Vikram Kale, commissioner of police Dr Nikhil Gupta and others were present during the press meet.

There will be 36 courts in 36 districts in the state. The hearing will be completed within 45 days. There will be a squad under the deputy superintendent of police for the investigation of the cases.

In all, 12,500 posts will be filled in the police department in two stages, while 5,300 will be filled in the first stage.

Similarly, the state government has decided to withdraw around 4 lakh cases registered during the Covid-19 period for the violation of lockdown. Similarly, the cases during the Maratha Reservation agitation registered between 2014 and 2020 will also be withdrawn, Deshmukh added.
