Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Ram Navami will be celebrated on Thursday. On this occasion, thousands of devotees visit the Ram temple at Kiradpura. To facilitate smooth movement, the municipal corporation’s anti-encroachment squad cleared the main road in front of the temple on Tuesday. Small sheds, platforms, and steps in front of shops were removed, and action was taken against 32 encroachments. Ten large vehicles parked on the road were also seized through towing.
From Roshan Gate to Azad Chowk, traders and residents had set up temporary sheds and shops along the road. They were initially given time and instructed to remove their materials. However, those who did not cooperate faced action, with illegal structures, tin sheds, and brick constructions demolished using JCB machines.
Action was also taken against those selling construction materials like sand, debris, and bricks on the roadside up to Azad Chowk, with fines imposed through ex-servicemen squads. Shopkeepers in the Ram temple area who had constructed platforms on both sides for commercial use were also cleared.
Some autorickshaw drivers were fined Rs 500 each. Open meat-selling sheds were removed and their materials confiscated. The drive was carried out by police inspector Budhwant, deputy commissioner Savita Sonawane, assistant commissioner Shaikh Rafique, Sanjay Suradkar, Syed Jamshed, Ravindra Desai, and police personnel from Jinsi, along with members of the ex-servicemen squad led by Pramod Jadhav.
