Runaway sand-laden hyva crashes onto car near Walmi
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
A speeding sand-laden hyva lost control on the slope of a flyover and overturned onto a car near Walmi on Paithan Road on Monday around 6:30 pm. The impact crushed the car under the hyva and sand, but two occupants narrowly escaped after the airbags deployed.
Police said the 10-wheeler hyva (MH-15-GV-9432) was heading towards the city on the Solapur–Dhule highway. The driver reportedly failed to slow down while descending the flyover near Walmi. At the same time, a car travelling towards Bidkin came to the curve, where the hyva driver lost control and the vehicle toppled onto it. One person jumped out, while locals rescued the other. Satara police sub-inspector Dilip Bachate rushed to the spot.

The gas-powered car’s tank was damaged in the crash, causing a gas leak. Police alerted the fire brigade, which controlled the situation. An electricity pole was also damaged.

Illegal sand transport blamed
