Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Property owners in the city are required to pay taxes for the new financial year from April 1. On Wednesday, most citizens attempted to pay their taxes online; however, the municipal corporation’s servers were down. Deputy commissioner Vikas Navale informed that the servers are expected to be operational within the next three to four days.

Property owners who pay their taxes in April are given a 2 per cent rebate on the general tax (samanya kar). Discounts are also offered in May and June. From July onwards, a penalty of 2 per cent per month is imposed on those who fail to pay. As a result, many property owners prefer to pay their taxes in April itself.

However, when citizens visited the municipal corporation’s website on Wednesday to make online payments, they found that the site was not functioning. At the start of the new financial year, time is required to generate new demand notes, prepare bills for property owners, and reconcile accounts. Therefore, the website remains closed for four to five days.

Navale further said that April 3 is a holiday on account of Good Friday, followed by the weekend, and the website is expected to be operational by Monday.
