Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The state transport corporation has decided to expand its premium and comfortable Shivneri bus service, popularly known as the ‘queen’ of the Mumbai–Pune highway, across Maharashtra. Soon, Shivneri buses will operate beyond the Mumbai–Pune route and connect major cities in the state. The Nashik–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar route has also been included in the proposed expansion.

Earlier, Shivneri buses operated from the city on the Pune route and were highly preferred by regular travellers. However, the service was later discontinued and replaced by e-buses. Now, Shivneri buses are set to return to the city. A tender process is underway to procure 200 new technologically advanced Volvo buses for expansion across the state. Once these buses are inducted into the fleet, Shivneri services will begin between other key cities, similar to the Mumbai–Pune model. This information was shared in Mumbai by the transport minister and chairman of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Pratap Sarnaik. The Nashik–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar route is among the proposed corridors, offering passengers a luxurious, safe and reliable travel option.

Concessions for senior citizens and women

Women passengers and senior citizens aged 65 to 75 will receive a 50 per cent concession on ticket fares, while those above 75 years can travel on Shivneri buses free of cost.

Addition of 30 sleeper Shivneri buses

Out of the 200 new buses, 30 will be sleeper coaches. On routes currently operating non-air-conditioned sleeper services, ‘Sleeper Shivneri’ buses will be introduced to enhance passenger comfort. With bed-coach facilities, improved safety features and modern technology, long-distance travel is expected to become more comfortable and convenient.
