Three persons, including a father and his two sons, were booked for allegedly assaulting traffic police after being stopped for jumping a signal at Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk on April 18.
According to police, sub-inspector Gore and constable Yogesh Chaudhary of the Cantonment traffic division were on duty around 8 pm when the accused, travelling in a tempo traveller from the District and Sessions Court side, allegedly violated the signal. When asked to pull over, they reportedly argued, abused the personnel, caught them by the collar and pushed them. One of the sons allegedly attempted to hit a constable. During the altercation, the father called his other son to the spot. The trio allegedly waved currency notes, made objectionable remarks and threatened to get the officers suspended. Assistant police inspector Sachin Mirde and team reached the spot and detained Pankaj Khandare, Akshay Khandare and Yogesh Khandare. A case has been registered at Cantonment police station on the complaint of constable Chaudhary. Further investigation is underway. This is the sixth reported assault on police personnel in the city since February, raising concern within the department.
