Straight to 'S': Deolai arch now a risk
The iron height-restriction arch at the Deolai Chowk side of the Shivajinagar underpass has developed into a hazardous “S-shaped” structure, raising fears of a possible collapse and accident.
As observed on ground by Lokmat Times, repeated collisions by heavy vehicles have bent the arch, distorting its originally straight structure into a twisted “S” form. The welding of iron rods on the cement base has also started giving way, while nuts and bolts supporting the structure have loosened at several points. Locals also alleged that the temporary barricade installed on the Deolai side is being tampered with during night hours. Some individuals are reportedly attempting to remove the barricades, further increasing safety concerns. Residents fear that a heavy vehicle impact could bring the structure down, leading to a serious accident. Traffic police have reportedly informed the public works department (PWD) about the unsafe condition. Citizens have demanded urgent repair and strengthening of the structure to ensure public safety.

Work stalled after excavation
The PWD began work on Monday to install a new iron height barrier at the Shivajinagar underpass entrance. A three-foot pit was dug for the installation, but the work has now been halted midway. The site has remained unattended for the past three days, secured only with police barricades. The open pit has raised serious safety concerns among daily commuters passing through the stretch.
