Students flock to apply for hostels
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Nearly 550 students applied for vacant seats in OBC Government hostels, while about 450 students who submitted applications were for the benefits of the Aadhaar scheme.
Currently, 13 seats for boys and 22 for girls are vacant in these hostels. The administration extended the deadline until February 15 to fill the vacant seats. Accordingly, there has been a good response from the students.
Earlier, due to heavy rains and floods, the deadline for hostel admission and applications under the ‘Swayam’ and ‘Aadhaar’ schemes was extended. Even after that, a total of 35 seats remained vacant, 13 in the boys’ hostel and 22 in the girls' hostel.
Meritorious students from OBC, VJNT and Special Backwards Class (SBC) who are pursuing diploma and undergraduate professional courses will be eligible to apply for the hostel.
Two hostels have been started in the city since last year for students belonging to the OBC, VJNT and SBC categories.
One hostel for girls is located at the Bal Bharati office area near the railway station while another for boys is near the Garware Stadium.
Last year, 138 out of 200 students were admitted to both these hostels, each with a capacity of 100 students. This year, the online application process for admission has started.
