Tippya lands in Harsul jail; Police add two fresh cases

Police tightened the noose around local goon Tippya alias Javed Shaikh on Monday as the court sent him to Harsul Jail and officers slapped two fresh cases on him one for obstructing government work and another for threatening police.

Tippya had barely walked free on bail when he and his aides robbed businessman Sheikh Azhar Sheikh of Rs 2.5 lakh at sword-point on August 2 midnight and demanded another Rs 1 lakh. He absconded after the crime but surrendered directly in court on August 26. On September 9, Pundliknagar Police Inspector Ashok Bhandare arrested him and later paraded him publicly for two days to shame him before traders and vendors. Tippya tried to escape custody on September 12, creating chaos on the street. Three days later, he threatened to “settle scores” with police. Taking serious note, police registered two more cases and hinted at stricter action not just against him but also against other criminals in the city.
