Aurangabad, June 22:

In a tragic accident, a 24-year-old youth died after the speeding car (MH-20-FG-7088), which he was driving, hit a concrete foundation of the gantry on the roadside, at Osmanpura Circle, today at 5.30 am. The deceased has been identified as Atharva Ashutosh Navander (Bansilalnagar).

As per his routine, Atharva left home in the car for the gym early this morning. However, instead of going to the gym, he planned to return home. The road was totally deserted and there was no traffic as well. Hence, Atharva increased the speed. While driving, he did not see the barricades placed near Gopal Tea. In an attempt to avoid the dash and decrease the speed of his car, the youth lost control of the steering. The car was moving at a speed of 100 to 120 kmph and dashed the concrete foundation of the gantry on the roadside. The impact of the accident was so severe that Atharva sustained grave injuries in the stomach, chest, and waist and started bleeding profusely. He also sustained fractures in both legs and died on the spot.

Acting upon the information, the patrolling police team reached the spot. The cops took out Atharva, who was stuck in the car, and rushed him to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), but the doctors at casualty (accident) ward declared him dead on examination.

The front portion of the car was completely smashed. The bonnet of the engine and both the airbags had opened. The steering wheel bent and dislocated. The police said that in an attempt to control the speed of the car to avoid dashing the barricades, Atharva instead of applying brakes had pressed the accelerator by mistake. This would be the reason why the car instead of stopping sped away, went out of control and hit the concrete structure on the side of the road.

Relatives, well-wishers shocked

Atharva's father is a builder and he has one brother. A pal of gloom descended in Bansilalnagar and well-wishers gathered at his house since morning. Many relatives also rushed to GMCH. Meanwhile, Osmanpura police have registered a case on the complaint lodged by Kaushal Ladda. PSI Kautik Gore is investigating.
