Bangladesh National Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Match Scorecard: Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque guided the Bangladesh to a stable position after early setbacks on the opening morning of the first Test against the Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday, May 8, 2026.
Bangladesh reached 101/2 at lunch after being put in to bat on a green-top surface in Mirpur.
Shanto remained unbeaten on 39, while Mominul was not out on 31 as the pair stitched together an unbeaten half-century partnership to rescue Bangladesh after the hosts slipped to 31/2 in the opening session.
Pakistan’s pace attack made good use of the helpful conditions early on. Shaheen Afridi provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy after repeatedly probing outside the off stump.
Hasan Ali then struck to remove Shadman Islam, who edged behind to Salman Ali Agha in the slips as Bangladesh found themselves under pressure inside the first hour.
Despite the early blows, Mominul and Shanto absorbed the pressure with a cautious approach before gradually increasing the scoring rate as the session progressed.
Pakistan missed an important opportunity in the slips when Mominul survived after an edge went between Salman Ali Agha and debutant Abdullah Fazal.
As the pitch eased out later in the session, Bangladesh batters began to play more freely. Shanto looked particularly confident against the pacers and played several fluent drives through the off side.
The Bangladesh captain also struck the first six of the match by pulling part-time spinner Salman Ali Agha over midwicket.
Bangladesh scored 56 runs in the final 10 overs before lunch to recover strongly after a difficult start against Pakistan’s seam-heavy attack.
