Jacks’ arrival comes at a crucial juncture for MI, who are currently being led by Hardik Pandya in the absence of the injured Rohit Sharma. The side has experimented with different opening combinations in recent matches but has struggled for consistency at the top.
The 25-year-old all-rounder could provide a solution to MI’s top-order concerns. Jacks has previously opened the innings for the franchise, including during the 2025 season when he partnered with Ryan Rickelton against Lucknow Super Giants.
Jacks is coming off an impressive T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, where he scored 226 runs at an average of 56.50 and a strike rate of 176.56, along with nine wickets. He was also named in the ICC Team of the Tournament.
His ability to contribute with both bat and ball is expected to add crucial balance to the MI lineup.
