Catherine O’Hara Passes Away: ‘Home Alone’ Actress Dies at 71 in Los Angeles After Brief Illness

Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara, known for her role in popular series like Home Alone and Beetlejuice films passes away at the age of 71. She took last breath at her home in LA after battling from brief illness on Friday. Actress came into lime light through Toronto's Second City improvisation troupe and on SCTV, before making a name for herself in the US in 1988's Beetlejuice and as the matriarch in the holiday classic Home Alone.

Catherine O'Hara, colleagues remembered  her as a "wonderful person, artist and collaborator".  She was recently appeared in the Emmy-winning comedy The Studio and HBO's The Last of Us. Her young co-star Macaulay Culkin, now 45, paid tribute to his on-screen mother on Friday, sharing images of the two of them from the film and in later years: "Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I'll see you later."

Catherine O'Hara's was born on March 4, 1954,  she was the sixth out of seven children. Her younger sister, named Mary Margaret O'Hara, is a musician and an actress. Catherine O'Hara completed her graduation from the Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Institue in the year 1974. As per the reports, her career was launched with a sketch comedy series at Second City Television in Toronto (1976-1984). This is where she worked with Eugene Levy for the first time. He went on to become her lifelong collaborator and her 'Schitt's Creek' co-star.

The actress went on to earn recognition with movies like 'After Hours' (1985), 'Heartburn' (1986), 'Beetlejuice' (1988), 'Home Alone' (1990), and 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' (1992).
