In a tragic incident, a man, who worked as an assistant to Bengali film actor Ankush Hazra, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in West Bengal’s Kolkata. The deceased, identified as Pintu Dey (36), took the extreme step after a person threatened to release his private video, as per his family members. According to the police, on Tuesday, Dey hanged himself using a towel in the bathroom of his house in North Kolkata’s Narkeldanga locality, following which he was dashed to a hospital in the vicinity. The medics at the hospital pronounced him “brought dead”. Police have not found any suicide note at the spot.

Dey’s relatives claimed someone was trying to blackmail him over the phone for money. They said the caller, since February, had been allegedly threatening to circulate Dey’s private video if he refused or failed to give him money, according to a report by The Times of India. Police have initiated a probe in connection with the incident. “He might be a victim of cyber fraud. A probe has been started,” the report quoted a police officer as saying. Meanwhile, Dey’s relatives have accused the police of not taking the matter seriously.
