Republic Day 2026 Special: Rang De Basanti to Border Must-Watch Movies on This Day

Republic is celebrated every year on 26th January to honor the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, making India a sovereign republic. This day is celebrated  by large parades, cultural events, and flag ceremonies throughout India.  The main celebration takes place at Rajpath in New Delhi, where India displays its military power, diverse cultures, and rich traditions. If you wish to celebrate this day watching patriotic movies then here are few options. 

Lagaan: A classic about Indian villagers standing up to British colonial rule through a cricket match. Film features Aamir Khan released in 2001.

Rang De Basanti:  Young Indians awaken to patriotism and social responsibility after learning about freedom fighters. Film was released in  2006 and became popular. 

Border: Based on the Battle of Longewala, it portrays courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers, film was released in 1997 and is still iconic film. The sequel of film will be released on January 23, 2026.

Chak De! India:  Indian women hockey team wins championship by overcoming all odds. Films shows how Shah Rukh Khan leads team and motivates girls to win game.  Films was released in 2007. 

Uri: The Surgical Strike: Based on the 2016 surgical strikes by the Indian Army, film stars Vicky Kaushal as Vihan Shergill who completes the revenge mission. Film was released in 2019 and was box office hit. 

Swades :Swades is a 2004 Bollywood film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. It’s widely regarded as one of the most inspiring patriotic movies in India because it emphasizes love for the country, social responsibility, and grassroots development rather than just nationalism through war or politics.
