Sambhavna Seth issues apology to Adivasi community over controversial remark

Sambhavna Seth and her Avinash Dwivedi recently uploaded a video on social media which didn't go down well with the Adivasi community. The language used in the video created a huge uproar The couple uploaded a new video later to apologise to the minority community for hurting their sentiments. They said that their intentions were not to hurt anyone and they didn’t realise their racist behaviour. They have also pulled down the video. In the video, the couple are heard saying in Hindi, “We had created a video on June 16 titled Didi Ne Hasa Hasa Kar Maar Dala. We have now realised that the language used in that video belonged to the Adivasi community from Jharkhand. The community comprises more than 1 lakh people and many of their sentiments have been hurt. Our intention was just to make people laugh through our humorous video. It wasn't our intention to demean anyone or any community. And for humours, we don't have a script, so, in the flow, we tend to speak inappropriate words and go wrong.

We would want to apologise to all our subscribers, to the Adivasi and the non-Adivasi community because even we were hurt after reading the comments by the viewers.” Adding further, they said, “We didn't realise that we made a mistake unless the people commented on Instagram and tagged us. We have taken down that video because we would never want to hurt any community. Our only intention is to spread love. We assure you we will never hurt any community here or anywhere in the world. We apologise to everyone with folded hands. If we make a mistake again, please let us know because it's important to know our mistakes.” On June 16, Sambhavna Seth and Avinash Dwivedi had shared a video where they were seen mocking and deprecating their domestic help's indigenous language. In the past, Munmun Dutta and Yuvika Chaudhary had also used words that offended the minority community, and they issued apologies too. Sambhavana, along with her husband, has been regularly sharing their lockdown diaries on their YouTube channel. She lost her father this year due to Covid-19 and cardiac arrest.
