Class 12 board exams have been deferred and Class 10 exams have been cancelled because of a nationwide Covid surge that had led to parents, students, politicians and various states demanding that the exams be scrapped. The big announcement followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting this afternoon with the Education Minister and top officers. Now reacting on the issue, actor Sonu Sood, who has been consistently tweeting in favour of the cancellation of board exams due to rising coronavirus cases across the country, was quite elated on Wednesday as the Education Ministry announced its new schedule. Sonu Sood shared on Twitter, “So finally it happened. Congratulations to every student.”

On Tuesday, Sood had tweeted, “Don’t let the exam centres become COVID hotspots. Students are precious.” “This time the Board exams are not for the students but for the authorities. They cancel the exams : They pass. They conduct the exams : They fail. #cancelboardexams2021. Life is precious,” he had shared on Monday. Sood had previously shared a video requesting his followers to support the students and made a case for internal assessment. The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) exams for Class 12, which were to be held from May 4 to June 14, have been postponed, said Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in tweets. A decision will be taken on them on June 1, he said, adding that students will have at least 15 days' notice before the new exam dates. On the Class 10 exams that were cancelled, the minister said the results would be prepared "on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board" and students not satisfied with their marks would be given the chance to take the exams whenever they can be held.PM Modi said in the meeting that "the well-being of students has to be the top priority for the government", according to a statement.
