(life) Sothebys Diamonds has unveiled a new collection designed by 23-year old talent Joseph Ramsay this autumn. Capturing Sothebys Diamonds defining signature, the eight pieces in the collection marry world-class diamonds with impeccable craftsmanship and highly original designs.

Featuring exceptional blue, pink, yellow and white diamonds, the collection is inspired by Ramsay's fascination with haute couture and frequent visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York where he found inspiration in the luxurious Renaissance garments and the flowing drapery of ancient sculpture.

A meticulous tailor and improvised engineer, Ramsay ingeniously weaved each diamond into a

fabric of precious and semi-precious stones, often incorporating unexpected materials to create the perfect frame for the diamonds.

The underwater world and its myths are further leitmotifs threaded within the collection, which uses shades of pastel to explore the themes of transparency, reflection and fluidity of shapes. The result is jewels of great visual impact whose soft colour palette and forms add to the dynamism of the design.

Joseph Ramsay said: "Sotheby's Diamonds has unparalleled access to the Earth's finest diamonds and being offered the opportunity to work with such exceptional stones has been an honour. Each design was inspired by the stones themselves. I wanted the jewels not only to be strikingly beautiful, but also to be a pleasure to wear. All these pieces have a real magnetism to them – like a beautiful fabric you can't help but touch."

The Circe Ring

This 18-carat white gold ring is named after the Greek goddess of magic. At its centre, is a 3.27 carat fancy blue, cushion-cut diamond in a border of rose-cut diamonds and turquoise.

The Dam Ring

Reminiscent of the architecture of a dam, this ring contains an exceptional 7.00-carat Intense purple-pink emerald-cut diamond within a narrow row of diamonds set in platinum and 18-carat rose gold.

The Nymph Earrings

These earrings of vibrant beauty undulate like two water nymphs beneath the surface of a river. A billow of pink sapphire and black jet set in blackened 18-carat white gold burns from a pair of fancy vivid yellow round brilliant-cut diamonds, both weighing 3.01 carats.

The Padlock Bracelet

Giving the impression of floating and circling the wrist, this bracelet features eight marquise-cut diamonds worth a total 10.30 carats, flanked with chalcedony and fine lavender spinels. There is a gold anchor, and elements of gold and blackened white gold bands set with deep purple sapphires.

The jewellery will be on view at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong from October 3 to 7, 2019.(Siddhi Jain can be contacted at siddhi.j@.in)
