Beijing, Dec 3 Guangzhou Evergrande defender Zhang Linpeng will be ruled out of action for six weeks due to an ankle injury picked up in an Asian Champions League game, the Chinese Super League club has announced.

"Zhang Linpeng received surgery on his right ankle at Aspetar hospital in Doha on the morning of December 2. The surgery was a success and he is expected to recover in six weeks," Evergrande said in a statement on Wednesday night, reports Xinhua news agency.

The 31-year-old defender, who also has 79 caps for China, fell to ground in agony after lunging for the ball five minutes into Guangzhou's 2-0 victory over Vissel Kobe of Japan last Saturday. He was then stretchered off.
