The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about an serious health scare in the lives of numerous human beings especially those who have faced the health scare. A new study has claimed that thousands of coronavirus survivors have been left with "irreversible lung damage" after contracting the illness. It is a known fact that the virus attacks the lungs first and based on certain study doctors have revealed that patients are suffering from scarring on the lungs as well as symptoms such as coughing and fatigue. After surviving the virus patients are invited back to hospital to conduct a scan on their lungs. "In the six-week scans we're seeing, so far I would say between 20 and 30 per cent of patients who have been in hospital appear to show some early signs of lung scarring”, Dr Hare said.

Studies in China have previously shown that Covid patients still had lung damage after they were discharged from hospitals.Data from other viruses such as Sars and Mers found that up to 60 per cent of patients experienced health conditions similar to pulmonary fibrosis after surviving Covid. Dr Hare said he is concerned due to the fact that so many people in the UK have had Covid and said many doctors are worried about the “sheer amount of patients we will need to treat”.

Prof Gisli Jenkins, of the National Institute for Health Research said:"My real concern is that never before in our lifetime have so many people been subject to the same lung injury at the same time."The global cumulative count of confirmed coronavirus cases is approaching nine million, with 133,326 cases recorded over the past day, the World Health Orgsation (WHO) said in its daily situation report on Tuesday.Over the past 24 hours, 3,847 people died from COVID-19 worldwide, taking the cumulative death toll to 469,587 fatalities, according to the report.
