Iran Thanks India for Allowing Warship to Dock in Kochi Amid West Asia Conflict, EAM S Jaishankar

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Iran has thanked India for permitting its warship IRIS Lavan to dock at Kochi Port, describing the move as a humanitarian gesture during the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Speaking on the evolving regional situation in Parliament, S Jaishankar said diplomatic contacts with Iran’s leadership have become difficult due to the conflict, but communication channels remain open at other levels. Jaishankar said Iran’s foreign minister had conveyed appreciation to the Indian government for allowing the Iranian naval vessel to dock.

“Contacts with Iran at the leadership level are obviously difficult at this time,” Jaishankar said. “Iran’s foreign minister has expressed his country’s thanks to India for this human gesture of permitting the Iranian warship Lavan to dock at Kochi port.”
