Angaraki Chaturthi 2026 on May 5: Puja Muhurat, Vrat Rules and Significance Explained

Ekadanta Sankashti Chaturthi, the first Chaturthi of Jyeshtha, is especially significant this year as it coincides with Angaraki Chaturthi, the most powerful of all Chaturthis. This day is considered auspicious for beginning the Chaturthi fast (Vrat). Worshipping Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, on this day is believed to eliminate impediments and fulfill wishes. Devotees should fast, worship Lord Ganesha, and offer Arghya to the Moon at night.

In 2026, Angaraki Chaturthi, an especially auspicious Chaturthi due to falling on a Tuesday, will be observed on May 5th. The Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Jyeshtha begins at 5:24 AM on May 5th and ends at 7:51 AM on May 6th, but since the moon will be visible on the night of May 5th, the fast and worship will be performed that day.

Observing the Angaraki Chaturthi fast and performing worship rituals yields significantly greater spiritual rewards than on other Chaturthi days. It is particularly beneficial for those with Mangal Dosha in their Kundalis, as it helps mitigate the affliction's negative effects. Furthermore, this fast is believed to remove obstacles and fulfill desires.

On Angaraki Chaturthi, wake up during Brahma Muhurat and ritually bathe, wearing clean clothes. Meditate on Lord Ganesha, holding water, and pledge (Sankalp) to fast and perform the rituals.

Spread a red cloth on a platform (Chowki) and place a Ganesha idol or image upon it. If using an idol, perform an Abhishek with Gangajal; otherwise, sprinkle it on the image. Worship Lord Ganesha with akshat, turmeric, kumkum, flowers, incense, and a lamp; offer Durva grass.

Offer Modaks or Laddoos as Bhog. Chant "Om Ganapataye Namah," recite the Sankashti Chaturthi story, and perform the Aarti. Seek forgiveness for any unintentional errors during worship.

At night, after moonrise, offer Arghya to the Moon God and worship. Then, break your fast.
