First, slightly unfold the saree you intend to buy. Gather a small portion of the fabric in your hand and press it tightly for about three seconds. If you notice fine wrinkles forming in that area afterward, it is likely to be real silk. Other fabrics usually do not develop such fine creases so quickly.

Second, hold the silk saree with both hands and rub two parts of the fabric against each other for three to five seconds. If the area you rubbed feels slightly warm afterward, it indicates genuine silk. Fake silk does not produce this warmth.
Also remember these points. Silk sarees are always lightweight. In fact, being light in weight is one of the primary characteristics of real silk. Therefore, check the weight of the saree before purchasing it. Additionally, the pallu of a genuine silk saree looks the same from both the front and back.
