Masi is the ninth month in the Tamil calendar and is considered highly auspicious. Among the significant occasions in this month, Maha Shivaratri holds prime importance, followed by Masi Magam or Maasi Makam.

Significance of Masi Magam 2025
It is believed that taking a dip in sacred water bodies like rivers, temple ponds or the sea on this day brings immense blessings and absolves past sins. According to legend, on this occasion, all holy rivers, including the Ganges, converge at the Mahamaham tank in Kumbakonam. Thus, taking a holy dip here is said to remove sins and bring divine grace.

Important Events of Masi Magam
It is said that Goddess Parvati incarnated as Darshini, the daughter of Lord Shiva, on this day. According to religious beliefs, childless couples who take a holy dip on this day receive the blessing of parenthood.

Masi Magam is also associated with an event where Lord Shiva freed Varuna Bhagavan from a curse. Worshipping both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day is considered highly auspicious. Performing ancestral rites (Tarpanam) on this day is believed to bring liberation from past karmic debts and offer peace to departed souls.

On Masi Magham, not only Lord Shiva but also Lord Murugan is widely worshipped. It is believed that on this day, Lord Murugan imparted the Pranava Mantra to Lord Shiva.
