A 52-year-old doctor named Parag Patil from Kalyan, died due to coronavirus infection at Jaslok Hospital on Sunday.

Patil was working as part of the Kalyan Doctor’s Army formed by the IMA-Kalyan to help the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) tackle COVID-19 cases.

He had actively worked in the civic-run fever clinics, apart from providing maternity services at his own facility, Shubhamkar Maternity Hospital.

The doctor as per reports developed initial symptoms of fever around May 23 and sought treatment under a local physician before getting admitted to Meera Hospital in Kalyan on May 29. Despite all the initial medications his fever didn’t subside. The doctor was later moved to Horizon Hospital in Thane on June 2, where he was put on a non-invasive ventilator. His condition didn’t show much improvement, his family decided to move him to Jaslok Hospital on June 7.

After being on ventilator for nearly two weeks, the doctor passed away early on Sunday.

So far, nearly 1,398 infected patients have been cured and discharged from COVID-19 facilities in Kalyan and Dombivali and the area has 2,040 active cases presently.
