The strong winds and intense rainfall when Cyclone Tauktae made a landfall affected the west coast. It caused a lot of damage near the beach. An old age home in Vasai was also hit by the storm. An elderly citizen was also injured when a window door on the first floor of the New Life Foundation collapsed. It is noteworthy that there are also school teachers who have taught Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, MNS president Raj Thackeray and NCP leader Jayant Patil staying in this old age home.

Suman Laxmikant Ranadive (88) was a teacher of Mathematics and Science at Balmohan Vidya Mandir in Dadar. She retired in 1991. She has been living in the New Life Foundation's old age home in Vasai for the last one year. According to the English newspaper 'Mid Day', the New Life Foundation's old age home is in a dilapidated condition and the elderly are suffering due to inadequate facilities.

"This cyclone has blown off the roof of our old age home. It is very difficult to sleep at night because we are old… mosquitoes bite a lot.My son, Uddhav…I want to meet you.. I taught you in a school at Shivaji Park. The situation here is very bad…please help us," Randive urged the chief minister.

Cyclone Tautke had hit Vasai-Virar beach hard. The New Life Foundation is an old age home in the same area. Suman, the teacher of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, lives in this old age home with about two dozen old people. Cyclone Tautkae has caused huge damage to this old age home. Randive has requested her old students to get the shelter fixed soon so that they can at least have peaceful nights to sleep.
