In view of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti today (February 19), buying and selling of alcohol in liquor shops, bar and restaurants is prohibited in Maharashtra, including in Mumbai and Pune, under state excise laws. However, consuming alcohol purchased earlier at home is usually not restricted by the rules.
Dry days are imposed by the government on special occasions, including during festivals and elections, to maintain law and order in the region. Therefore, on Thursday, February 19, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of the Maratha warrior.
The restrictions have been imposed from midnight on Wednesday, February 18 and will continue until midnight on Thursday, February 19. Bars and restaurants will be allowed to stay open only for food, but not allowed to serve alcohol.

On February 19, Thursday is an official public holiday, where all schools, aided, unaided, private and government are closed. Public transport will operate normally, including BEST buses, Mumbai Local trains, autos and taxis will operate as per the regular schedule.

Financial institutions such as government offices, banks, municipal corporations and state-run departments in Mumbai and across Maharashtra will remain closed on February 19 as part of the state holiday observance.
Private offices and businesses may follow varied schedules on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. Some companies may choose to close for the holiday, while others may operate as usual.
