Explosion in Covid centre in Bhandara district hospital due to oxygen pipe leakage

A leak in the central line of oxygen supplied to the Covid center caused an explosion at Bhandara District General Hospital in Maharashtra. The accident happened around 11 pm on Friday. Earlier in January, 11 infants were killed in a fire at a child care unit at the same hospital.

The eploion created an atmosphere of fear among relatives of some of patients that the tragedy would repeat. Bhandara District General Hospital has a covid block. A new covid unit has been set up in the eye department of the hospital to avoid any inconvenience to the positive patients in view of the increasing number of cases. This unit was started two days ago. The central line of oxygen is designed to supply oxygen to the patients in this unit. There was a sudden leak in this central line. This caused an explosion there. As soon as the sound of explosion was heard, the staff present outside the Covid center immediately rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

Meanwhile, patients undergoing treatment at the center were immediately shifted to a safer places. This averted a major accident. All the patients receiving treatment after the accident at Covid Center have been shifted to another ward.District Surgeon Dr Farooqi informed that all the patients are safe.
