Kolhapur Shocker: Grandson Kills 83-Year-Old Grandmother After She Refuses to Give Money to Repay Loan
Kolhapur, Maharashtra (February 12, 2025): An 83-year-old woman was murdered by her grandson in Senapati Kapshi village, Kagal tehsil, after she refused to give him money to repay a loan. The crime was discovered late Tuesday night, police said.
The accused, identified as Ganesh Rajaram Chougale from Vikramnagar, Ichalkaranji, was detained early Wednesday along with two minor friends. According to police, he fled after the murder, taking his grandmother's jewelry.
The victim, Saguna Tukaram Madhav, lived alone in Madhav Gali. She had three children, with one son residing in Pune for work. Police said Ganesh frequently visited her, knowing she had money in her bank account. Witnesses saw him arrive at her home Tuesday afternoon with two minors, demanding money.

The murder came to light when her grandson, Sushant, arrived at night to deliver food and found the house locked. Neighbors helped search for her but found no trace. When the lock was broken, the crime was discovered.
Initially suspected to be a theft, the investigation took a turn when locals reported seeing two unidentified men on a motorcycle near the house. Police traced Ganesh to his home in Ichalkaranji and arrested him at 4 a.m. He has confessed to the crime, and further investigation is underway.
