Maharashtra: 21-Year-Old Drowns in Vana River Near Ajanti Dam on Mahashivratri
Wardha: Six youth from Borgaon Datar in Hinganghat taluka had gone to the Shiva temple in the old settlement of the village for darshan on Sunday on the occasion of Mahashivratri. After returning from there, they were tempted to swim. However, one of them drowned in the water. The incident took place at around 2:30 pm on Sunday at the Ajanti Dam on the Vana River.
Akash Sheshrao Bavane, 21, drowned at Ajanti Dam on Sunday. He and five other youths visited the Shiva temple around 10:00 am and returned home. Later, around 12:30 pm, Akash went swimming at the dam with five friends, including Atharva Gaurkar. While exiting the water, Akash slipped, fell back in, and disappeared before his friends' eyes after struggling in the water. As soon as the information about the incident reached the village, the villagers rushed to the spot. Bhimrao Thakre informed the Hinganghat police. Akash's body was finally recovered around 4:30 pm. Santosh Manne of the village found Akash's body from deep water and pulled it out. The police conducted a panchnama and sent the body to the Upazila Hospital in Hinganghat for post-mortem.
Akash will be cremated at Borgaon Datar on Monday. The village mourns his death, which occurred on Mahashivratri. He is survived by his parents and younger sister. Five friends who witnessed the incident survived, but are deeply affected by his loss.
